One question I am often asked by want to be mothers is, “How Do I increase my fertility”? While there is no real way to increase your natural fertility, there are steps that you can easily take to maximize and make the most of the natural fertility you have:
Quit Smoking
By far smoking is one of the worse things you can do to your fertility. Not only is it one of the worst things you can do to your body in general, but smoking hits your fertility especially hard. Its a well known fact that women who smoke reach menopause up to three years earlier than women who do not smoke. The chemicals from cigarette smoke interfere with estrogen levels and can also affect a woman’s ovaries. Women who do get pregnant while smoking increase their risk of miscarriage and tend to have babies that way less than normal.
Light To Moderate Exercise
Exercise is definately a great idea and has multiple health benefits for women. However, working out too intensly or for too many hours a day can begin to develop menstrual issues. This is a common occurance for women who bodybuild or train for marathons. Moderate exercise is great, but just don’t overdue it.
Keep Your Weight Under Control
Keeping your weight at a healthy level will maximize your fertility. This holds true for women who are overweight, but also for women who are significantly underweight as well. Having too much or even too little fat cells in your body can lead to a hormone imbalance.
Avoid Excess Alcohol
Heavy drinking is a terrible idea when trying to conceive, and drinking in excess regularly will interfere with a women’s cycle. Light to moderate drinking is ok, but it’s best to keep it under two drinks a day.
Avoid Stress
Having a baby introduces stress into a womens life, often that stress is welcome, however women who are constantly under high stress can have problems with their cycles and make it more difficult for them to conceive. Avoid excess stress will help with fertility as well as your overall wellness.
Folic Acid
Folic acid, also known as vitamin B9, reduces the risk of birth defects in pregnant women. However studies also show that folic acid supplements also help women who are trying to conceive. The amount of folic acid in your standard multivitamin should be sufficient, however it is recommended to consult with a medical professional for their particular recommendations.
